Description

42 and more ways of using your own dead body in time travel. GOST of Time is an absurdist top-down action and puzzle game with time-traveling mechanics.

Welcome to a distant and absurd future where even time is subject to government regulations. In this glorious era of progress, an elderly citizen requires vital medication. He acquires a government-approved Time-Clone™ device for pill delivery. The process is, as always, efficient and precise - to get the pills, he must clone himself and send the clone into the machine, where it solves puzzles, retrieves the pills, and travels through time.

You play as the clone, created to serve a greater purpose. Your job is to face challenges, bypass obstacles, and solve puzzles to retrieve the pills for the old man. Every time you go back in time, you'll encounter your past self, repeating all your actions exactly. By working with your past selves, you solve puzzles to get the pill. Remember: you're your best ally and worst enemy!

History

We wanted to make a game where sacrificing yourself is an important part of playing. Our idea came from Eliezer Yudkowsky's fanfiction "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality," where Harry uses a Time-Turner to duplicate himself, travel back in time, and solve magical problems in clever ways—doing even more impressive things than Hermione did in the original stories. We also wanted to bring in the madness and absurdity you see in "Rick and Morty." Mixing these ideas together, we came up with GOST of Time.

Team

Three of us worked on the game over the course of about three years, squeezing it in between our day jobs and the occasional life crisis:

  • Game Design: Alexandr Vilassak (when he wasn’t busy being a superhero at work)
  • Programming: Victor Passichenko (mastering code by day, our game by night)
  • Art: xCherryBox (drawing pixels while probably sipping too much coffee)

We basically turned late-night development into an art form!

Features

  • Time-traveling mechanics: play with your past selves.
  • Collect ancient artifacts from the Old Era.
  • Hemoglobin, pixel violence, and dark humor.
